Fines & Membership fees

Fines for Open shelves books

  • A fine of R2.00 per day for an overdue book charged from the day after the expiry of the loan period.
  • Accumulate with R2.00 every day until the information resource has been returned (until after 3 weeks).
  • Pay a total of R42.00 after three weeks or pay the replacement cost of the information resource plus processing costs (R100.00) of the information resource.

Fines for Short-loan (Reserved books)

Prescribed/Textbooks and recommended/supplementary books that are placed on short loan:

  • A fine for overdue: R2.00 fine per book charged after 2 hours; accumulative after every two hours.
  • After 24 hours the system billed R51.00 per book once-off.
  • Fine for overnight loan returned after 10:00: R20.00 penalty per hour.
  • Fine of R51.00 is payable after 24 hours.
  • Fine for lost information resources: Replacement cost plus R100.00 inconvenience fine plus R70.00 processing cost.
  • Fine for failure to return information resources recalled: R50.00.

 Fines for lost books

  • Pay the replacement cost of the information resource plus R100.00 processing fee.

Alternative purchase the information resource and pay only the R100.00 processing fee.

Study cubicles

Postgraduate students shall be eligible for use of study cubicles at a fee charged annually as follows:

  • Rental payment: R270.00 for annual use.
  • Deposit fee: R65.00 refundable deposit for keys and damages that might be incurred.
  • The rental is renewable until the client has finished his/her programme.

Internal  payments should be made at the UFS Cash office

Complete the internal deposit  slip at the Library Circulation Desk- Level 3
