ORCID at the University of the Free State

The University of the Free State supports and advocates the use of ORCID. The UFS is now also making it possible for you to easily share your research information and keep it up to date. With your permission, we will synchronize information between RIMS and your ORCID record.

If you haven't yet registered, you can register for an ORCID iD on RIMS:

  1. Go to RIMS.
  2. Log in using your Kovsie credentials.
  3. Go to your profile and click on the ORCID link.
  4. Register on the ORCID website. You will now have the opportunity to grant the UFS permission to access your ORCID iD.

If you need help with RIMS, please email the RIMS office or call them on 051 401 9451.

If you've accidentally created more than one ORCID iD: see ORCID's advice, or contact ORCID support with full details of both IDs and they'll be able to advise you.

Why register for an ORCID iD?

ORCID is becoming the method of choice by funders and publishers to unambiguously link people to their publications and grants.

The National Research Foundation (NRF) now requires ORCID iDs in grant applications.

Need more reasons? ORCID:

  1. Reliably connects you with your works, affiliations and awards.
  2. Alleviates mistaken identity.
  3. Let's you control your iD.
  4. Integrates with many other systems, such as manuscript submissions, funders and repositories.
  5. Saves time.
  6. Improves recognition for you and your research.
  7. Increases discoverability of your research.
  8. Is free!
  9. Makes it easy to register.
  10. Is your lifelong digital identifier.

This means you can often use your ORCID iD instead of manually submitting personal and citation information, making grant submissions easier and means you don't have to repeatedly enter the same information into various systems
