COPTR describes tools useful for long term digital presesrvation and acts primarily as a finding and evaluation tool to help practitioners find the tools they need to preserve digital data. COPTR is collating the knowledge of the digital preservation community on preservation tools in one place. Instead of organisations competing against each other with their own registries, COPTR is bringing them together. In doing so it's objective is to provide the best resource for practitioners on digital preservation tools.
There are 427 different tools described in COPTR.

The Mediapedia resource is intended to enable the identification of various physical media carrier types for assisting with collection planning, assessment, documentation, infrastructure and preservation planning for the content they hold. These could include media across various genres such as cine, video, photo, audio, data, paper carriers, microfilm, etc. This resource is maintained by the National Library of Australia.

A comprehensive source for identifying cables and connectors potentially used for audiovisual/media preservation. Cable types and connectors are organized by the primary purpose of the signal being transferred - video, audio-only, data (i.e. computer cables) and power.

Harvard Library established the Digital Preservation Program in June 2008, building on years of digital preservation projects and initiatives conducted at Harvard University. The centerpiece of the preservation program is Harvard Library's digital preservation repository, the Digital Repository Service (DRS).

PRONOM is an on-line information system about data file formats and their supporting software products. Originally developed to support the accession and long-term preservation of electronic records held by the National Archives, PRONOM is now being made available as a resource for anyone requiring access to this type of information.
