What is Perplexity?

Perplexity is a search engine using artificial intelligence to analyse peer-reviewed scientific publications and select the most relevant information for a user's request. This implies an easier way of accessing information in scholarly journals. It can be a helpful starting point for research. However, users should be aware of the limitations of the platform, such as the quality of the information and the lack of relevance when a question is not asked clearly.

Is it free?

Yes, it is free with unlimited quick searches, and 5 Pro searches per day. The paid Professional version has additional functionalities.

Is it user-friendly?

It is very user-friendly and easy to access with a Google account. You can also use it in incognito mode.

How can Perplexity be used in the UFS context?

Similar to other chat tools. Perplexity provides the option to search the entire internet or in academic papers only. Other options include generating text or chat without consulting the web, using Wolfram Α, or YouTube, or Reddit. You can also upload files to query them. Perplexity would be useful for teaching, learning and research.
