AI-assisted Technology in Education

What is ChatGPT?

Developed by OpenAI, ChatGPT uses deep learning techniques to generate human-like responses to natural language inputs, such as questions, statements, and commands. Trained on extensive amounts of text data from various sources, including books, articles and websites, the model can learn the patterns and structures of natural language to produce coherent and contextually appropriate responses.

Is it free?

Yes

Is it user-friendly?

Yes, but it is recommended that you familiarise yourself with the tool and learn how to refine your questions to get the best responses. You will need to evaluate the responses and use your expertise to edit and incorporate them in your work.

How can ChatGPT  be used in the UFS context?

ChatGPT has numerous academic applications for students, teachers, and support staff. It can be used to customise learning experiences, and create various educational resources, such as interactive tutorials, study guides, and online learning quizzes. It can assist lecturers in automating repetitive tasks such as grading, providing feedback and creating content so they can focus on more critical tasks, such as providing individual support to students. And it can provide answers to frequently asked questions, information about policies and procedures and offer technical support for support staff, increasing their efficiency.

ChatGPT can also help determine your research question or topic, help determine learning objectives and assist with curriculum development. See the ChatGPT guide for the UFS for detailed information and examples.
